Safety & Environment

Environment:

Leaf River is committed to protecting the environment where we live and work. We promote environmental stewardship by designing, constructing, and operating facilities that serve the interests of our customers, communities, landowners and employees while meeting the challenge of protecting the environment. We are committed to:

  • Protecting the environment and working with all applicable agencies (federal and state) to fully comply with laws and regulations designed to protect sensitive areas
  • Conducting our operations in a manner that protects human health and the environment
  • Enhancing the quality of the environment, in which we live and work
  • Protecting the environment and our natural resources by operating in a safe and reliable manner
  • Using high standards and procedures to ensure the utmost care and respect for sensitive areas
  • Maintaining an open dialogue with neighboring communities throughout the planning, development, construction and operation stages to ensure the project reflects the communities’ interests and needs
  • Working with landowners to ensure minimal interruption of existing land use activities
  • Restoring the land to it’s natural condition (as nearly as possible) before construction

Construction and operation of our facility is also focused on causing minimal impacts to the environment and landowners. For the most part, the pipeline corridors of our facilities will use existing pipelines and rights-of-way, and we will construct additional pipelines next to these existing pipelines in order to limit the acreage permanently affected by the facility. The compressors and other equipment have been designed to limit sound and air emissions to comply with all applicable state and federal guidelines.

Safety:

The natural gas industry has successfully stored natural gas in underground facilities for nearly 90 years by keeping safety a priority. Our team has safely and efficiently been involved in the building and operation of similar storage projects in multiple areas across the United States.  We take great pride our ability to operate natural gas storage facilities and work hard to ensure strict compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulatory safety and environmental requirements.

Below are some of the safety aspects of the operation:

  • All systems are designed with multiple emergency shut-off switches that are accessible at many locations by all employees on the site.
  • All systems are engineered to be fail-safe devices that eliminate the possibility of malfunction.
  • Shut down devices will also be available via remote access.
  • The gas that is being handled is a clean/dry pipeline gas that will omit no toxic or harmful emissions.
